Bad start to season for Man United, after falling 1-2 to Brighton

The Red Devil fans were left shacking their heads at Old Trafford on Sunday, after United failed to deliver a much anticipated season opener win at home. Facing Brighton, Man Utd players felt disengaged throughout most of the game, losing the match 1-2 to the Seagulls.

Erik ten Hag, the new manager of the Red Devils, was left scratching his head, as yet another bad start to the season loomed from the 30th minute onward. That’s when Brighton opened the scoring with a goal by Pascal Gross. Less than 10 minutes later, the German midfielder netted another one past De Gea and United’s season opener was looking grim.

The team went into the locker rooms two goals down, and when they came out for the second half of the match, the initial push was quick to fizzle and bot teams seemed to settle into a predictable pattern. United attempted to push, while Brighton was quite comfortable trying to protect the two-goal lead. They almost succeeded, but an own goal by Mac Allister gave Manchester United a breath of fresh air and the belief that they could close the game favorable, after all. Alas, it wasn’t int he cards once again for the players and the fans at Old Trafford. The game ended in a 1-2 loss to Brighton and the troubles for the Reds continue.

Among the many criticisms towards Hag was the United exposed midfield. With just three weeks left in the transfer season, United are in desperate need of some quality players to distribute the ball on the pitch, but none of the Hag’s attempts at luring top players have panned out so far. United is traveling to face Brentford this Saturday, and although not a top of the league contender, after the home performance against Brighton, many are questioning the ability of Man United to deliver even against weaker opponents, especially on the road. In a few days we will see if Erik ten Hag has done enough over the week to alleviate some of the problems United are dealing with on the field.
