Farewell win for United in the last game for Carrick

Manchester United has ended the negative run of three games without a victory in the Premier League, after defeating Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford.

The two teams played a spectacular match, in which United took the lead after a very curious goal, where the main referee Martin Atkinson first disallowed it, but after VAR check the goal stayed. It was scored by Emile Smith Rowe in the 13th minute with a shot from away, while De Gea was on the ground in pain after a clash with his teammate Fred. It was decided that, because it was not Arsenal player causing De Gea to be on the ground, the situation is clear.

Bruno Fernandes equalized at the very end of the first half from close range after assist by Fred in the penalty area.

In the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals, the first of which was №800 in his career and the second and winning one from penalty 20 minutes before the end. Between them, Martin Ødegaard had tied for 2-2. After this game, United is only two points behind Arsenal.

Acting interim manager Michael Carrick has announced his parting from the club. He decided to leave the Red Devils immediately after the victory.

“I will never forget the wonderful moments as a footballer and as part of the coaching staff. However, after much deliberation, I decided that now was the right time to leave the club.”, explained himself Carrick.

Just hours later the team’s new interim manager Ralf Rangnick talked to the press for the first time. He spoke on the many topics related to the team, the pressing issues he will have to deal with, but also hinted that he would be willing to stay for a longer period of time if things go in the right direction and both sides are satisfied.

Next game Manchester United is playing against mid-table Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday. A win could potentially move the Red Devils two spots up to 5th place.
