Manchester United vs. Liverpool: Game preview, betting odds and more

After a disastrous start to the 2022-23 campaign, Man United continues the uphill battle with the 20th August game against Liverpool. The two elite EPL team will close the third week of the football season with a game at Old Trafford. Usually this would be a cause for jubilation, but given the performance of the Reds in the first couple of games, things are certainly looking grimmer than anticipated.

Even before the start of the new season, United looked shaky on the pitch and the first two games proved that there is a ton of work for Erik ten Hag. The new football season began disastrous for Man United, falling 1-2 to Brighton in the home-opener. And to add salt to the wound, last week’s travel to face Brentford was even worse, the Reds falling 4-0 behind in the first half alone, never able to recover or even return a single goal.

So after such a terrible start to the season, the home match against Liverpool is viewed by many as a chance for redemption, all while that uneasy gut feeling remains. Liverpool hasn’t been doing much better this season, opening with two draws and only two points. So the game at Old Trafford is certainly winnable, but we felt the same about the visit to Brentford, and we all saw how this ended.

So let’s turn to the betting sites and ask the odds makers for guidance, as recommended by Online Casino Snoop. Sadly, things aren’t looking great on that front either. I guess the silver lining is that one has the chance to win some decent money anyway they bet the Monday’s match. At most sportsbooks Liverpool are the favourite team to win, listed with average odds of around 1.60 on snatching their first win of the season. But fans of Man United who believe that the match against the neighbours to the west is the time when we’d finally get our first 3 points of the season, will get to cash out on a 5.7 coefficient, should they bet the game in favour of United. Speaking of getting our first points of the season, even a single one seems to be a though wager, despite Liverpool drawing in all two of their games. The bookmakers have the betting odds on a draw firmly set at 4.50 with around 20% implied probability.

As one can see, even the sportsbooks aren’t very confident that Man Utd will be able to deliver and expect yet another loss to head our way. Considering that following the Liverpool match we travel to Southampton and Leicester, then a home game against Arsenal, this season is looking grimmer by the minute. Let’s hope that Ten Hag’s boys will be able to muster some fighting spirit this week and trun things around with a victory against Liverpool.
