United sack Solskjaer after embarrassing Watford loss

It’s official, Manchester united have fired manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and another former player, part of the current staff, Michael Carrick will temporary take the helm while a permanent replacement is found.

Despite the rumors that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will remain as the manager of United until at least the end of the year, the loss against Watford on Saturday proved too much even for the owners of the club and the Glazers let the former United star go. For now, Carrick has been given the role of “somewhat” interim manager, while Woodward and Co. are looking for a manager to hire on a permanent base. If Man Utd.’s troubles are not enough already, the Red Devils top brass announced that they are in search of “interim manager” to replace Carrick, and then they will begin looking for a long-term candidate. All this have left both fans and pundits scratching their heads, trying to make heads and tails of the weird messages coming out of Old Trafford.

Solskjaer signed a 3-year extension in July, which should’ve kept the former United player at the helm of the club until 2024. Lack of cohesion among the players, and the stemming poor results and performances, however, forced the hand of upper management. With only 5 wins since he start of the season, United are now eight on the Premier League table with just 17 points out of 12 games. The trashing they had to endure at Watford, losing 4-1, simply underlined the dire need for change, but the question remains where exactly should the blame be placed. As it is common, leadership is first to take responsibility and the firing of Solskjaer was far from unexpected.

The way this managerial change is being handled, on the other side, with Carrick being a temporarily-temporary manager – no one could be sure of the short term effects. United are hosting League leaders Chelsea on Sunday and if the performance at Watford is any indication, compounded by lack of stable leadership, hard-core United fans should probably avoid watching this game for the sake of their own cardio-vascular well-being.
