World class goalkeeping from De Gea stops Chelsea for a draw

The European champion Chelsea had an advantage most of the game especially noticeable in the first half. However, De Gea intervened decisively twice, and once the crossbar saved the guests after a shot by Rüdiger. The whole time De Gea’s calm presence helped the team to stay focused and not let Chelsea win.

Michael Carrick, who is leading the team for the second time as a manager, has made four changes compared to the game against Villarreal this week. The big news was that Cristiano Ronaldo stayed on the bench. Bruno Fernandes returned to the starting line-up and Carrick bet on a rather defensive midfield. Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay.

Jadon Sancho scored a breakaway goal in the 50th minute, setting United on course for their second win in two games under Carrick after 2-0 Champions League win over Villarreal in midweek.

Manchester United interim manager also praised the work of the midfield in earning a hard-fought point at league-leaders Chelsea.

“We came here to win the game, at half-time we really believed we were right in the game and that in the second half we’d grow into it and being in front and having that opportunity and then suffering from a penalty that I don’t think was a penalty is disappointing.”, said Carrick after the game.

Manchester United have not lost to Chelsea in their last eight league games. Next league game is on December 2nd with Arsenal coming to Old Trafford and starting the most busy month of the season with 8 games in 28 days.
